Risk Management in UX Definition: How Do You Prevent Scope Creep in a Complex System?

BlackSwanProject ManagersFinTech & RegTech
BlackSwan — Designed the Risk Engine - the platform's most complex surface, where all system logic and high-risk thresholds are defined - into a visual decision system compliance teams could actually own.
Projects involving complex systems tend to drag on for months beyond the planned schedule because of a poor definition of the design scope of work. In a system like BlackSwan, where every function touches regulation and sensitive data cross-referencing, defining the boundaries is critical to a successful Delivery. My workflow is built on hard milestones grounded in Flows. Before we rush off to design colorful screens, we lock down the functional architecture. The moment the project manager and the technical team approve the User Flow, the risk of dramatic mid-development changes drops by tens of percent. Good design isn't just visual — it's a tool for managing risk in the organization's timelines.
